Welcome to Walnut Creek Farm – Home of the Fluffy Coos!

Nestled in the scenic Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, Walnut Creek Farm invites you to meet our beloved Scottish Highland cows—affectionately known as "Coos." Whether you're visiting from near or far, every guest leaves with unforgettable memories (and often a few slobbery kisses!).

Visitors of all ages are welcome to connect with these gentle giants—feed them, brush them, and even cuddle baby Rufus, our extra-snuggly little star. From kids bringing their own stuffed cows to moo-et the herd, to couples celebrating anniversaries, every visit is full of heartwarming moments and moo-ving experiences.

Looking for a unique adventure? We also host paint parties, group events, and private farm tours. Whether you're sipping on a lemonade after feeding the cows or laughing through a farm-themed art class, there's always something special happening on the farm.

Discover Our Farm Story

Welcome to our family farm! We’re Faye, Robbie, and Hilary Bumgarner—mother, son, and daughter-in-law—and yes, this is very much a family operation in every sense of the word. The land that makes up our farm has been in Faye’s family for generations. Years ago, it was farmed by her parents, and those pastures have seen a lot of life and love over the years. In more recent times, Faye started thinking it might be time to put something back out there to help maintain them. That’s where I (Hilary) chimed in with what I thought was a perfectly reasonable suggestion… Scottish Highland cows. I had fallen in love with these fluffy coos as a young girl after seeing one at a familiar family farm in Virginia. Fast-forward quite a few years, and one just so happened to become available locally. We convinced—okay, pleaded with—Faye to go take a look. In 2019, we purchased our very first fluffy coo, a bull. A few months later, Faye bought a cow to keep him company… and the rest is history. Turns out, fluffy coos are like potato chips—you absolutely cannot have just one. They’re addictive. Now Faye likes to tell visitors that we are the reason she has a post-retirement job that requires far more hours than her old 9-to-5… and she’s not wrong. 😂 Before long, friends and family started asking to come see the cows. Watching the joy and excitement these animals brought to everyone made us realize we wanted to share them with more than just our inner circle. So in the spring of 2024, we slowly began opening the farm to the public. Everyone has their role here: Faye is the face of the farm and handles all the visits. Robbie is the laborer (and has the hardest jobs by far). Hilary stays mostly behind the scenes, running the website and social media and designing and ordering merchandise for our little farm store. We are so thrilled you’ve found us and truly hope that if you visit, you’ll leave with memories that last for years. And to our repeat visitors—some of you have become like extended family, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Welcome to the farm. 💛🐄🌾
